Those who plan to spend their holiday in Istanbul can embark on an art-filled journey through Istanbul Modern's "Artists in their Time" exhibition.
Istanbul Modern's collection exhibition titled, "Artists in their Time" unites art lovers with 109 artists and 193 works from different parts of the world. The exhibition focuses on how artists place their works and themselves as individuals around the concept of time.
The words, "I am neither within time nor completely outside of it," from Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar (1901-1962), one of Turkey's prominent intellectual and literary figures, provide the starting point for the exhibition as it illuminates the reckonings of various artists with the past, present and future.
Curated by Istanbul Modern's Director Levent Çalıkoğlu and co-curated by Artistic Program Director Birnur Temel, the exhibition offers a roadmap regarding the intertemporal, existential journeys of the artists through the concept of time, the center of all Tanpınar's works.
The "Artists in Their Time" collection brings together artists from different parts of the world through its ever-improving and expanding collection each year. Among the artists whose works are on display at the exhibition are Fahrelnissa Zeid, Aliye Berger, Semiha Berksoy, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Cihat Burak, Adnan Varınca, Avni Arbaş, Cafer Türkmen, Naile Akıncı, Aziz Albek, Nejad Melih Devrim, Neşet Günal, Gökşin Sipahioğlu, Adnan Çoker, Turan Erol, Ara Güler, Albert Bitran and Burhan Doğançay.
