Festival gathers int'l documentaries in Istanbul


The final week of Turkish Radio & Television's (TRT) Eighth Documentary Days festival will run between May 12 and May 16. According to a statement released by TRT, a total of 427 films from 47 different countries were submitted to this year's competition.Emmy-winning director Mani Y. Benchelah's "This Is Exile: Diaries of Child Refugees" will be screened at the opening ceremony. The festival will bring qualified and creative examples of domestic and foreign documentary cinema, and will screen 50 documentary films from May 12 to 15 at locations including TRT Istanbul's Harbiye Radyoevi, Notre Dame De Sion French High School, Akbank Sanat and the Tarık Zafer Tunaya Cultural Center. A new section was introduced entitled "Panorama," which features seven documentary films from six different countries, offering different perspectives on the refugee crisis and showcasing tragedies from the lives of refugees.An open-air concert will be held at Harbiye Radyoevi garden, and several social activities will take place.
