Istanbul's art and culture center open in Bomontiada

A new exhibition and art center, Alt, has opened its doors for art lovers in Bomontiada, Istanbul with two new exhibitions titled "Rodney Graham" and "Enter through the Window If You Cannot Get in through the Door." Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) during the opening of the art gallery, Alt's director and curator Mari Spirito underscored that they aim to address people from every segment of society. "The exhibition space is very nice and we are very happy. Alt is a great place to experience various mediums of artwork. Although Turkish art is going through hard times, new galleries and exhibition spaces such as Alt continue to be opened," Spirito said. Alt, which intends to create a participative cultural platform, welcomes the new art season with the theme "The problems of productivity in art." Commenting on the seasonal theme of the art center, director and curator Spirito said, "'Enter through the Window If You Cannot Get in through the Door' focuses on skillfulness and craft. Through the artworks showcased in the exhibition, the artists try to stand up to all the difficulties that they face in life. Alt is a platform that we want to introduce to all people who are interested in art. One can easily become a part of this platform by visiting an exhibition or participating to live performances, shows or panel sessions." On the other hand the exhibition which takes its name from its creator Canadian artist Rodney Graham features installations in various disciplines including film, photography, music and painting. The group exhibition "Enter through the Window If You Cannot Get in through the Door" brings the works of young artists Aykan Safoğlu, Hasan Özgür Top and Hera Büyüktaşçıyan together. Moreover, the installation by Hasana Özgür Top titled "A gift from the Middle East" proposes a thorough restoration to the Aleppo Mosque, which was destroyed during the civil war in Syria, and the artists touches on the wounds that "will not heal easily." The exhibitions hosted by Alt in Bomontiada can be visited until March 26.
