ArtInternational to open with rich program

Taking place from Sept. 4-6 at Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul, the ArtInternational contemporary and modern art fair has announced its program under the curatorship of Stephane Ackermann. Along with performances and installations designed by renowned figures, the fair will host curators, art institutions and platforms from Turkey and abroad.Photography artist Ali Taptik will introduce his special collection "It's Not Fair," which departs from his interest in his own profession. Living both in Istanbul and New York, Arslan Sükan will take photos of visitors during the fair and display them. French experimental artist Dominique Petitgrand will attend the fair with his sound installation "La gorge seche" (The Dry Throat), while American artist Maya Hayuk will invite visitors to a visual psychedelic experience. Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, whose work was displayed in the Armenian pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale, will show her installation "Falling Waters," transforming the fair area into a wide, blue river. Performance artists Burçak Konukman and Nevin Aladağ will showcase their newest work, "I Am an Independent Artist" and "Move." Curated by Başak Şenova for the last two years, the fair's Videos on Stage section will bring artwork that follows personal stories, memories and dreams of artists with the theme: "Ruins and Wounds." The three-section part includes videos from Javier Perez, Payam Mofidi, Levi van Veluw, Claudia Larcher, Hacer Kıroğlu, Juan Pablo Ordunez / MawatreS., Amparo Sard, Oliver Ressler, Karen Mirza and Brad Butler, Maria Friberg, Joanna Rajkowska and Aglaia Konrad. ArtInternational's next attention-grabbing part, Alternatives, will be curated by Italian artist and author Paolo Chiasera. Gathering nonprofit art groups and projects, this section will feature eight initiatives from Turkey and the U.K. Aside from the previous year's groups like 5533, Near East, Protocinema, SPOT and Torun, David Robert Foundation, Masa Project and Nesin Arts Village will attend the fair for the first time. Works of art by over 400 artists in total will be presented at ArtInternational 2015, in which 87 galleries from 27 countries are taking part.
