Prominent Turkish artists' works to be auctioned


The 100th auction at the Artium Sanat Evi will present prestigious works of classic and contemporary Turkish painters such as Mübin Orhon, Burhan Doğançay and Komet at the Astoria Shopping Mall on July 4. Featuring 294 works, the auction catalogue covers rich content from the early period of Turkish painting to its present day. Showing the progress line of Turkish painting, the auction will introduce oil paintings, watercolor paintings, crayon paintings and others made with different techniques. One of the prestigious works belongs to Mubin Orhon, who was inspired by the Parisian art scene. His stained abstract oil painting "Lirik Soyut" (Lyric Abstract) is dated from 1962. The painting, which is 126.5x94 centimeters, was made on a canvas covered with painting cloth. Orhon's painting will be put up for auction with an estimated price of TL 120,000 ($44,000). Burhan Doğançay, another important painter in the Turkish art scene, whose work has sold for high prices around the world, is the next name at the auction. Dated 1971, his abstract painting "Red PM" was made with acrylic enamel. The opening price for the painting, which is 63x51 centimeters, is TL 80,000. Malik Aksel's oil painting on hardboard "Haliç'ten Görünüm" (A Scene from the Golden Horn) and Burhan Uygur's oil painting "Portre" (Portrait) will be sold from TL 50,000. Another renowned name of Turkish contemporary art, Mustafa Ata's "Figürlü Kompozisyon" (Composition with Figures) will be put up for auction from TL 40,000. He made the painting in 2006. Çoşkun Gürkan, known as Komet among painters and art lovers, has a painting of the same name. Made in 1979, the painting was shaped with Gürkan's surrealist interpretation. The painting, which is 50.5x61 centimeters, will be sold from TL 25,000. Haluk Akakçe's "Remember Tonight" will also be introduced at the auction. Made on paper with different painting techniques, the work, which is 76x101 centimeters, will be put up for auction from TL 10,000. All the paintings can be seen at the Artium Sanat Evi's gallery space at the Astoria Shopping Mall until the auction.
