Break silence against violence

Students from the Istanbul Şehir University Department of Psychology have organized an exhibition that draws attention to the victims of violence that permeates all layers of society, either openly or behind closed doors. The exhibition, "Abuse Grows in Silence," will continue until June 11 at the Şehir Merdivenaltı Gallery at Istanbul Şehir University. The students, who believe any kind of abuse can only grow when hidden, have collected newspaper clippings about traumas related to violence and abuse that were published throughout the year.Although many generally tend to refrain from reading news about crime, domestic violence and honor killings, these kinds of incidents affect thousands of families and individuals directly while deeply shocking others. Our reaction to this problem does not suggest a solution, either. The only way to find a solution to violence that confronts us every day is to face reality and create awareness about the threat. With this purpose in mind, the students are exhibiting press clippings and videos as well as life-size human figures on which various messages about the issue of violence and abuse have been written.
