Ottoman painting from 1913 sold for $1M at auction
The most expensive piece sold on the auction organized by the company Antik A.Ş. on Sunday, was a 1913 painting by the Turkish artist İbrahim Çallı, titled 'Those sitting at the Courtyard' ("Avluda Oturanlar").
Çallı's piece was sold for 2.5 million TL ($1.064M), the highest price paid for the painter's work at an auction.
The auction took place in Istanbul at the Shangri-La Bosphorus Hotel and presented a distinguished collection by old masters and contemporary artists from Turkey. More than 500 art lovers participated in the auction.
The 20th century Turkish artist İbrahim Çallı (1882-1960) painted landscapes, portraits, and still lives throughout his career.
