Turkey's first 'Shakespeare Week' has attracted over 16,000 people to the theatres to watch British playright, William Shakespeare's plays performed in state-funded theatres across fiveTurkish cities.
Seven Shakespearean plays were performed for Turkish audiences in the cities of Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Erzurum between January 21-26.
Hamlet, Othello, Twelfth Nıght, The Merchant of Venice, and The Tempest, along with some of the playwright's most famous sonnets were all performed as part of the event.
Next month state theatres will hold the 'Anton Chekhov Week', between February 18-23, to celebrate some of the most significant plays from the popular Russian playwright.
