Prime Minister honors Mehmet Akif Ersoy on his 77th year of death

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that that the significance of our National Anthem is that Mehmet Akif Ersoy has captured the spirit of this land and therefore is a national consensus text.

According to the Prime Minister's Press Office's statement, Erdoğan said that in the Independence War of Turkey, spiritual leaders had played a role as important as the heroes on trenches and national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy was an important one of those leaders.
He added that Mehmet akif Ersoy had joined to this battle with all his soul and being and he had reflected the spirit of the whole nation through his writings as well as giving hope to the nation on its darkest day.
He continued, "The National Anthem he wrote is not just a poem but a national consensus text with the way it reflects the core of this nation. With his masterpiece Safahat and essays he left behind, Mehmet Akif Ersoy has lit our way as a poet and a deep thinker, as well as a role model for his struggle for justice, truth and service."
Erdoğan reminisced Mehmet Akif Ersoy on his 77th year of death with gratitude.
