A ‘Harem’ night in the Bodrum Castle

Last Saturday night was the debut of the performance of ‘Harem’ for the tenth annual International Bodrum Ballet Festival.

The performance of Harem, choreographed by Merih Çimenciler with costumes designed by Russia's Alexander Vasillie, also included selections of Ottoman style music performed on instruments authentic to that era. The show drew out a crowd of ballet-lovers who packed the Bodrum Castle.

The piece, which portrays one of the most resplendent eras of the Ottoman Empire through ballet, included décor and costumes prepared by the internationally acclaimed-Alexandre Vasiliev. The sold-out show ended with a standing ovation by the 1,200 audience that filled the Bodrum Castle.

The International Bodrum Ballet Festival resumes on August 21st with the Compania Antonio Gades' performances of 'Blood Wedding' and 'Suite Flamenca'adapted by the company's namesake Antonio Gades into a ballet performance.
