A Spaniard in Istanbul’s bars

Spanish musician Javier Rubial, known for his fusion of flamenco and jazz music, is in Istanbul to play a series of low-key concerts for his fans. Known for his popular piece La Flor De Estambul, Rubial will be playing in small bars tonight and tomorrow before leaving January 6th.



Rubial describes how he was inspired by Turkey, "On my first trip to Istanbul as a tourist, I was very impressed. My song La Flor De Estambul came about when I wrote lyrics describing a dancer from Istanbul that were adapted to French composer Erik Satie's Gnossiennes No. 1." Rubial has also expressed his appreciation for Turkish music and states, "Certain tradition instruments here, such as the clarinet, tabor and zither are very impressive."Tonight Javier Rubial will be playing at Araf Bar and tomorrow, January 4th at the Gitar Café in Kadıköy.
