Indiana state website hacked for contentious religion bill

Hackers have claimed that they have shut down the U.S. State of Indiana's official website on Friday due to the recently legislated religion bill that created controversy.

The website was offline for approximately one hour. A Twitter account named @YourVikingdom claimed responsibility for the attack; meanwhile a message was posted on the website pointing at another user, which had criticized the Governor for introducing a bill that allows to "discriminate."

Indiana Governor Mike Pence had recently approved a state version of 1993 dated federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which was unanimously accepted by the U.S. Congress at the time.

The bill caused controversy as opponents stated that it will cause discrimination, especially against LGBTI communities.

Similar acts had been earlier approved by Southern and Republican Midwest states, in addition to some swing states.
