Stratfor, a well-known American publisher and global intelligence company, has predicted that Turkey will emerge as a prominent regional power in the next 10 years, in its recently published fifth Decade Forecast. Turkey will expand its scope of influence in the Middle East and the Balkans, and the competition between Turkey and Iran is expected to increase, it reports.
Evaluating each region and main global powers, Stratfor's report argues that the next decade will be dominated by chaos throughout the world. It is predicted that the United States will continue to be a dominant player in the next decade, while the European Union will significantly weaken as Russia falls apart.
It is claimed that the nation-states in the Middle East and Northern Africa will also deteriorate. Turkey is the only actor capable of bringing stability to these fragile regions according to the report, which suggests U.S. support is crucial for Turkey based on political and military grounds.
