PKK's youth wing, Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) terrorists attacked police forces late Tuesday with Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives in Esenler district of Istanbul.
While the motorcycle unit of Esenler police was patrolling in the Mahmutbey Avenue, 15 YDG-H terrorists attacked the policemen with Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives. Police helicopters and a special operation unit were deployed to the area. Security forces immediately retaliated against the terrorist attack. A terrorist was captured dead in the clashes.
Following the attack, scores of Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives have been seized. Three YDG-H militants have been detained after the incident.
The Turkish government has intensified its counterterror operations following the recent attacks carried out by the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., the EU and Turkey.
Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
